My Fiction Biography

“My Fiction should lead the next wave of Aussie festival faves.” ROLLING STONE “Personal, uplifting, clever, poetic… all of those things.” THE COURIER-MAIL “…it’s just a great album. Like a cute kid on a merry-go-round these songs may take a few spins to settle in, but once there on, they won’t leave.” SCENE MAGAZINE Things are really starting to happen for powerhouse four-piece MY FICTION. But if you have been around their hometown of Brisbane, Australia anytime in the past year, you could see it coming though – the buzz steadily building, the shows getting bigger, and the band growing in confidence. And now, they’ve made the leap, taken that almost mythical ‘next step’. Armed with a brilliant new record and an impressive live show My Fiction are making good on the promise they’ve shown since emerging onto the local scene. Their sound? It’s indie rock without the baggage. My Fiction know what makes people move, and how to connect. The big guitars, bigger melodies and powerful bottom end all combine to make something immediate, but with depth. Lyrically powerful, their songs leave plenty of room for emotional connection. Little wonder they find inspiration through artists as diverse as Bowie, Midnight Juggernauts, Battles and Regurgitator. It’s music that speaks of dark and mischievous romance, heartbreak, missing the last train home and taking your BMX for a joyride in the suburbs. As Rolling Stone recently put it: “My Fiction's music brings to mind less the sun-drenched suburbs of Brisbane and more the cold streets of London. Galloping drums, Morrisey-tinged vocals and Eighties synths butt up against grungey guitars and muscular delivery. Whether this juxtaposition of shoe-gazing and youthful enthusiasm works is academic, because My Fiction can really write hooks.” And it’s a sound that’s been wonderfully realised on their debut long player FIREROMANCEFIRE. Produced by ARIA Award (Australian Grammy’s) winning Magoo, the record packs a serious punch and builds on the strength of the band’s previous releases – the “Your Tokyo” EP and double a-side “Tonight Tonight/The Loop. SINCE THE ALBUMS RELEASE… The band was invited by A&R Worldwide to showcase at this year’s MUSEXPO Los Angeles. My Fiction has debut in the CMJ Charts (US College Radio) at #137 including top 30 across a variety of stations such as WBWC, KMET, KTCU, and Top 10 in KMET Denver (#8), WRHU in Hamstead (#4) and #1 in WVMM in Grantham. The band also has secured airplay across the USA commercial radio, including KROQ LA. My Fiction recently toured Queensland supporting The Butterfly Effect and was followed up by a performance at Good Vibrations Festival headlined by Faithless, Phoenix, & Friendly Fires. The single ‘Every June’ has beaten out 15,000 songs to come third in the International Songwriting Competition in the category of ‘Unsigned’. In addition the song was also a finalist in the ‘Rock’ category alongside Australian heavyweights Children Collide, Gyroscope and Dappled Cities. Lead track ‘Every June’ was added to rotation on Australia’s leading national youth network Triple J and topped the AMRAP charts as most ordered track to national community radio. The clip for ‘Every June’ received airplay on Rage (featured as ‘Indie Clip of the Week’) and Ten’s Video Hits across multiple weeks. ‘Every June’ picked up the Courier-Mail People’s Choice gong at the recent QSong Awards (Queensland song writing awards) The band launched the record along the Australian east coast – including a sold-out Brisbane show at The Zoo. My Fiction were invited to showcase at the BIGSOUND 2010 industry event and festival.
