About this concert
Adriano Adewale and the Sounds of Brazil We are now open to applications to take part in the Adriano Adewale and the Sounds of Brazil project. The EFG London Jazz Festival’s free mass-participation project returns with a celebration of Brazilian music led by Adriano Adewale. Come together as a group to learn and rehearse Brazilian music and showcase this work at the EFG London Jazz Festival. Join other musicians, as well as a youth ensemble, to learn a new piece of music specially commissioned for this project by Adriano Adewale. The music (both notated and recordings) will be shared with you prior to rehearsals, which will focus on developing ensemble music-making skills, learning and rehearsing the piece and performance techniques. The project will culminate with a performance at the Southbank Centre as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival on 18th November. The performance will open the Sound of Brazil stage, an all-day celebration of Brazilian music. "I am excited to be composing this new piece and to meet people of all ages, with and without experience, who love music and want to make music together, as a community. We will work creatively, have fun, and thrive in a friendly and joyful atmosphere" - Adriano Adewale Participants It is open to all musicians and music-enthusiasts, aged 16 and over. It is a participation project for people looking to develop their skills rather than a paid gig opportunity. You must be able to attend the below rehearsals and performance. All levels of musical ability are welcome and no particular previous experience is necessary, just a desire to learn new music and develop your skills. The project is open to musicians of all instruments as well as vocalists. We will accept participants to create a balance of instrumentation - we may therefore not have space for all applicants or may ask if you want to play a different instrument or sing. We will also partner with a community group or school who will form the youth ensemble also taking part in the project. This project will focus on creating a community atmosphere, where participants’ contributions are valued and appreciated. Rehearsal schedule Rehearsals will be held at the Southbank Centre, Level 5 Function Room on 11th November, 10.30 – 4pm 12th November, 10.30 – 4pm (joint rehearsal with youth ensemble) 18th November, 10.30 – 12.30 (dress rehearsal) The performance will be on the Southbank Centre, Clore Ballroom stage, 18th November, 1.15pm Fill in the below form by Friday 20th October to apply.
