When in Rome Biography

Now performing as When In Rome II. The original When in Rome was a dance trio from England consisting of Clive Farrington (vocals), Andrew Mann (vocals), and Michael Floreale (piano and keyboards). They had a U.S. Top 10 hit with "The Promise" in 1988.

Initially Farrington, Floreale, and Mann were in the locally active, Manchester, England-based group Beau Leisure with part-time fashion designer Corinne Drewery. In 1984, Corinne left to form the sophisti-pop outfit Swing Out Sister with Andrew Connell and Martin Jackson. Farrington, Floreale, and Mann stayed together, adapting the name "When in Rome".

Signed by Virgin U.K. subsidiary 10 Records, producers Ben Rogan (who had worked with Sade) and Richard Burgess (Five Star, Living in a Box) took special interest in the trio's "The Promise," issued first as a 12" dance disk. When the song became popular hitting the top of Billboard's Dance Club Play chart, Virgin ordered an album. "The Promise," remixed, was the first single from their self-titled debut album. It was an instant success hitting number 1 on Billboards Dance Chart and number 11 0mn the main chart. The song "The Promise" has since become an all time classic and has featured in many hit movies including Napoleon Dynamite. The song has also been successfully covered by Sturgill Simpson and Kelly Clarkson.

Floreale reformed When In Rome in 2006 and toured throughout the United States and South America. The band recorded a follow up album "When In Rome II" and the album was co-produced with Warren Huart ,who's producing credits included The Fray, James Blunt and The Ramones.
Floreale now lives in Nashville, Tennessee and is involved in both production work and touring (2006 - present) with ex-Ultravox singer, Tony Fennell (guitar / vocals).
