About this concert
“Spider” John Koerner’s legacy is deep, he’s influenced everyone from Bob Dylan to Bonnie Raitt, hung out with legends such as Sleepy John Estes and Son House, and was part of the iconoclastic trio Koerner, Ray and Glover. According to him, his performing days are over now but we’re very lucky to have a number of amazing recordings and countless memories of seeing him play live.
In 1969, Spider John made a film with Bruce and David Rubenstein called “The Secret of Sleep,” a photo-skit starring himself and Willy Murphy among others, and we’re proud to partner with Nero's Neptune Records to be able to screen this film for you in celebration of John’s art and music.
The evening begins with a short solo set by Charlie Parr, followed by a special screening of “The Secret of Sleep.” Then stay for a performance following the film by a group of dedicated Spider John fans — The 60’s Bar Style Band – featuring Liz Draper, Adam Kiesling, Mikkel Beckmen, Grant Johnson and Charlie Parr.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase copies of the film on DVD as well as other releases by Spider John on vinyl and CD.
Join us for this unique event, and tell Spider John how much we appreciate him!

Charlie Parr was amazing! Opening acts Yonder and Kiernan were terrific and served well in support of Parr's usual pared down presentation - the man, his guitar, and his voice. The venue was perfect! A couple of over-served patrons were a distraction, but too bad for them, they will probably have only a foggy memory (if any) of an excellent concert.

Charlie Parr Biography
Charlie Parr is an incorruptible outsider who writes novelistic, multi-layered stories that shine a kaleidoscopic light on defiant, unseen characters thriving in the shadows all around us. Parr has a new record with only his name on it, and it isn’t shiny and perfect and commercial and catchy. It’s him. It’s pure Charlie Parr and that’s enough. He hasn’t moved to LA or Nashville; he’s stayed in the cold grey north of Minnesota, because that’s his home.
