About this concert
Friends coming together to play a concert at St Andrews church Colyton. Brooke Sharkey (www.brookesharkey.co.uk) Brooke Sharkey grew up in London before moving to France at the age of 9. Although her interest in melody creating and singing started around the age of 5, her interest in songwriting increased during this time of transition between two cultures; a period that continues to shape her and her lifestyle as an artist on the move. Starting her musical journey as a busker and session singer at 16, she has since released 2 Eps and 2 full length albums ‘One Dress’ (2012) and ‘Wandering Heart’ (V2 records- 2016), travelled and toured extensively. She produces and co-producers her music with various artists and musicians adding to her unique vocal delivery and lyrics, reaching poetically into the vaste yet intricate themes of love, loss, hope, beauty, nature, seduction and sadness. Having relocated to Oslo in 2020 between 2 waves of Corona, she is currently recording a new EP of her own songs to be released in spring 2024. In 2016, Brooke was featured in the FUTURE 50 article in The Guardian; An article featuring the top 50 independent artists doing it their own way and in a review by fresh beats, was described as having 'An introspective sound adorned with emotional vocals … that create a tense air of melancholy that few others can master so simply and so elegantly, Brooke Sharkey oozes a creativity that radiates emotion. She is a woman who bleeds artistry' Blythe Pepino is a singer, songwriter, voice coach and music producer. She fronts the band Mesadorm – an alt acoustic-electro indie band which has been hailed on BBC Radio 6 and whose debut album was marked as one of the best alternative albums of 2018 by the Guardian. Mesadorm have just released their second album, Pollinator, directed and produced by Pepino. She spends most of her time creating in her studio. With a life long interest in the voice, she is an advocate and teacher for self-healing through vocal resonance. Eliciting both tears and laughter from her audiences her voice is as versatile in emotion as it is in range and tone. Although she has graced stadium size venues and reached major record label prominence, she now covets full creative control over her releases and is more inclined towards intimate performance spaces and the indie music universe. Isaks island Isak's Island is the artist-project of songwriter and guitarist Aksel Undset. The music of Isak's Island can be described as intimate and nourishing soundscapes that frame evocative and poetic songs, which both hint at 60s and 70s songwriters such as Nick Drake and Leonard Cohen, but still reaches for the new and unexplored. The project was first launched with the space-rock EP “Peculiar Calls From Outer Space” in 2013, where Aksel played all instruments and produced the music himself. In the same year, Aksel moved to London and put together a live band for the project, which over the next few years played many concerts around the city. Since then, the project has moved more in the direction of the folk genre, have released two more EP’s and one album, and played gigs in Great Britain, Ireland, France, Italy, Spain and in Norway. The debut album 'Songs For Winter' was released in autumn 2021, and the follow-up album 'Fallen Anchors On The Sea Bed' will be released on the 26th of May 2023.
