About this concert
Evangeline Gentle is a Scottish-Canadian internationally acclaimed folk-pop songwriter, performer and vocalist based in Ontario, Canada. Contemplative and affecting, Evangeline’s lyrics evoke lush emotional landscapes within the listener and seek to unite audiences with a sense of “sameness”. A celebration of queerness and queer culture is woven throughout Gentle’s upcoming release Where The Diamonds Are, best heard on singles “Gay Bar” and “Bad Girls”. On this she says “While many have never been to a gay bar, most know the euphoria of getting dressed up to go out dancing with friends. We are inextricably connected by our shared emotional, human experience. I love that songs remind us of this.” Produced by Jim Bryson (Kathleen Edwards), and mastered by Grammy- nominated engineer Philip Shaw Bova (Bahamas, Feist), her 2020 debut self-titled release earned international praise. Gentle was interviewed by legendary host Scott Simon on NPR’s Weekend Edition Saturday, appeared in Forbes, and received radio play on BBC, CBC, SiriusXM and more. Evangeline supported headliner Donovan Woods at the 2021 Mariposa Folk Festival, with other standout performances including those at Maverick Festival (UK) and Static Roots Festival (Germany) in 2022. She has supported acts such as Kathleen Edwards, Tim Baker, Begonia, Basia Bulat, Craig Cardiff, Whitehorse and Sarah MacDougall. Evangeline’s highly anticipated sophomore release, Where The Diamonds Are, arrives in 2023. Sherika Sherard Through songwriting Sherika vows to encourage the conversations that make us vulnerable. From charming one liners to heart-felt confessions, Sherika uncovers our complex journeys through a celebration of acceptance and continuously warms the hearts of her listeners. Born and raised in South London, it was after listening to Marvin Gaye Sherika came to realise she also wanted to discover her deepest emotions through performance and songwriting. After dropping out of University Sherika decided to put her faith and determination to the test by becoming a full-time busker, as well as becoming a well-known performer on the London music scene regularly invited onto the stages of many prestigious venues including Ronnie Scott’s, Jazz Cafe, Shoreditch House and The Century Club, Sherika has also gone on to take several international bookings including The Seychelles, Senegal and Norway. Last year British Soul Singer Seal surprised Sherika with a visit while she was busking on the Southbank, they performed two duets and Seal went on to invite her to open for 2 of his shows at Old Royal Naval College (London) and Cirque Royal (Brussels). This year Legendary Film director Spike Lee also showed his appreciation for Sherika’s talent by personally picking her original song “We Don’t Need a Reason” to feature on his Netflix Series of “She’s Gotta Have it”. After independently releasing her Album “Just Saying” and this year’s E.P “Patience and Fears” Sherika is focused on her next move; to release and self produce her up and coming releases. She is a clear example of how the industry has changed, with a strong connection to her fans and regularly performing and interacting with new ones, she has become a personality people can relate to.

Folklore Biography

Folklore was set up in Manchester in 2009 with a focus on Alt-folk, Americana, Indie and Psych-Folk music. Our aim has always been to give a platform to high-quality music produced by artists at all levels, through event promotion and tour booking. We moved to London in 2011, gaining a loyal audience and forging lasting relationships with local, national and international artist and venues.
In response to seismic changes in the industry around 2020 we were inspired to strengthen our networks and set up a label with artist services, something that has long been on the cards at Folklore HQ. Starting with a small roster built around the twin pillars of Faultress and Mock Deer, we are steadily growing our roster.
Folklore continues to prioritise quality live shows in great venues, and we are delighted to have been involved in various festivals around the UK, curating and assisting at events such as Festival No.6 and Wilderness.

Past shows have included appearances by: Hannah Peel, Joan Shelley, Lyla Foy, Sweet Baboo, Eaves, Douglas Dare, Farao, Emily Barker, Withered Hand, The Burning Hell, All We Are, Daniel Norgren, Laura J Martin, Rachael Dadd, Catherine Feeney, Sons Of Noel and Adrian, Emily & the Woods, James Canty, Sam Brookes, Bella Hardy, Blue Rose Code, Will Varley, French For Rabbits and many more.

Alongside our established work in live music, our international booking roster and our label, we are delighted to offer a selection of label services to independent artists. In over a decade making contacts and forging friendships in the industry, we have curated a network of trusted professionals with whom we have negotiated packages and direct service agreements.

Our collective experience offers a range of services from recording through to mastering, artwork, design, promotion and more. These services can be packaged to offer as much or as little support as each individual artist requires.
