About this show
The Trail & District Arts Council is very excited to get the community back together this Summer at Gyro Park for Music in The Park. With eleven shows and two to three acts per night, from June 22 to August 31, it’s the perfect opportunity for all the family to get together outside and listen to great live music. This season we have a great mix of music from local favourites to touring talent! On July 13 The Oot n’ Oots, a JUNO-nominated family that makes rock n’ roll music for families will be followed by Selkirk College fiddle camp instructors playing East Coast Old Time Fiddling tunes. Hailing from the Okanagan Valley, The Oot n’ Oots includes “force of nature”, 16-year-old Ruthie, with her dad Ez and uncles Ari, Gabe, and Matthew. Their sheer exuberant amazingness and lightheartedness mixed with their wildly imaginative music draws on diverse influences from the history of rock n’ roll. This is truly entertainment for the whole family. Instructors from the Fiddle Camp at Selkirk College make their annual appearance at Music in the Park. Comprised of some of Canada’s very best champion fiddlers, headed by Master Fiddler and the Order of Canada recipient, Gordon Stobbe from Nova Scotia. These talented musicians put on a toe-tapping, East Coast Old Time Fiddling great time. Bring a lawn chair. Admission is by donation – $3 minimum suggested. Or support the Trail Arts Council’s programming by buying a Season Pass for the whole summer for $50! Passes will be available soon.

The Oot n Oots Biography

The Oot n’ Oots make kids music that is, to quote Jerry Garcia, not for kids only. Drawing on diverse influences from the history of rock n’ roll, this is a band with chops, soul, and swagger. Their original songs are wildly imaginative, brimming with humour and inspiration.

Hailing from the Okanagan Valley, BC, the band includes 14-year-old Ruth Cipes(described as “a force of nature” by Spare the Rock, Spoil the Child host Bill Childs)with her dad Ez and uncles Ari, Gabe, and Matthew. In performance the group casts a spell of freedom, lightheartedness, and laughter. This is truly entertainment for the whole family, enlivening community, joy, and understanding through free-spirited musical performance.

The band has appeared at numerous festivals including the Philadelphia Folk Festival, been nominated for two WCMAs and a Canadian Folk Music Award, and appeared on the Fids and Kamily Awards top 20 albums in 2018. “Thank You Universe”, the first single their third album, was named #3 Song of the Year in 2020 by a poll of children’s radio programmers in the USA.

The Oot n’ Oots released their third album, Ponderosa Bunchgrass and the Golden Rule, on October 15, 2021.
