Get Steady Biography
Get Steady continues to blend their funk sound with the energy of a rock concert in their upcoming original releases. Since 2012, this crew has been entertaining the Maryland music scene with their trumpet and guitar-led groove rock arrangements. They have been featured at Baltimore Pride; extended summer concerts in Frederick, White Marsh, Laurel, and Baltimore’s Inner Harbor; and packed countless shows at venues like Tin Roof, the Ottobar, and the 8x10 in Baltimore. Now, after renaming the project and reorganizing the lineup, Get Steady is attacking the new year with fresh arrangements that are sure to excite and inspire awaiting audiences.
A music teacher by day and front man by night, Alex Appelbaum provides lead vocals and electric guitar for the group. A soulful baritone with a “laser-like” falsetto, Alex exercises his wide range to create intricate melodies that carefully and craftily compliment the lyrical content. His guitar work ranges from funky to flashy - with a raw, improvised feel tailored specifically for each piece and audience.
Those beautiful countermelodies and triumphant lead lines you hear are provided by Logan Goodspeed on the trumpet and John Sorrenti on saxophone. The group makes an effort to feature their unique tones in interesting and unexpected ways in each of their arrangements. Behind the drums, Alex Scott holds down the beat with tasty grooves that pack punch after punch.
Bassist Evan Ponter assists Alex in writing lyrics, arranging instruments, and conceptualizing each song. In this project, the duo is challenging themselves to break free from rhyming rules and typical song structures. They are constantly incorporating many different genres into their groove-based rhythms, rock edginess, and soulful singing. Their original music has a common theme of confronting uncertainty, escaping turbulence, and recovering from trauma carefully woven into each lyric. It’s all about getting back on your feet, taking the next step, and keeping your head up. Positive energy is such a powerful healer.
Catch Get Steady at their next show to see the magic in action.
