Catie Turner Biography
Unfiltered and refreshingly authentic, 18-year-old Catie Turner knows herself and is unafraid to show it. In 2018, she finished in the Top 7 of ABC's American Idol out of 45,000 hopefuls. Catie's audition was chosen to kickoff the premiere episode — a golden opportunity to debut her original “21st Century Machine” to 11 million viewers. Written as a reaction to the pressures she's faced in the age of social media and its glaring lens on young women, the song and its unforgettable guitar riff became an overnight anthem. Catie’s style was immediately recognized as a new wave of soul singing, with a warmth in her timbre reminiscent of early Amy Winehouse and Adele, and lyrics that channel the spirit of Joni Mitchell.
To cope with changing schools and being socially outcast, the Langhorne, PA native taught herself guitar and started writing, skills that earned consistent praise and support from the judges. She stole the spotlight with unexpected twists on hits from The Beatles, Lady Gaga, and Blondie, and shared the stage for duets with Andy Grammer and Katy Perry, who joined her on the live finale to sing her #1 single “Part Of Me.” In the summer of 2018, Catie played 48 cities on the “American Idol Live! 2018” tour. Her televised performances and original videos have gained over 50 million views across all platforms while her outspoken, “reject-the-norm” persona has inspired legions of fans globally who identify with the underdog trying to find her place in the world.
