Jol Rose Biography
I'm a singer-songwriter based in Swindon, England.
I was born in London at the end of the sixties - my musical influences include old-school punk and ska as well as a long tradition of US-influenced music (Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen), traditional folk and blues and more. I guess the sum of all this is some kind of rough-edged Americana.
I recorded my first album, My Nebraska, in Earthworm Studios, Swindon, at the end of 2018, release it April 2019 - a collection of songs, mostly written recently, that talk about struggles, both personal and political. You know the stuff ...life, love, loss and despair. Cheery stuff. (The album’s title is a nod to Bruce Springsteen’s stripped back 1982 album Nebraska, which was initially recorded as a demo with just guitar and vocals.)
2020 saw the release of the follow-up, Welcome to Zombieland. All recorded in the home studio, with guests popping in or recording remotely, this is a more diverse album - styles and dreams held together with hope, anger and melacholy. And melody. Etc.
Current tour of new album, Peace Love Americana, released March 2023. We sure need it.
