About this concert
7:00 PM PST
Join The Freight in celebrating the life and music of Django Reinhardt with two nights of concerts. Featuring an all-star lineup of musicians co-curated with Michael Joseph Harris and Paul Mehling. Django Reinhardt (January 23, 1910 – May 16, 1953) was a Manouche (French Roma) child-prodigy who became a master musician at a very early age, possibly the first guitar virtuoso in jazz. Mostly known for his guitar virtuosity, he is also regarded as the originator of the musical genre Jazz Manouche, where the guitar is front and center (in contrast to most other kinds of jazz of his time where brass instruments were usually playing the melodies and solos). Reinhardt created the Hot Club de France Quintet, with a format still used in the genre with all acoustic stringed instruments.

Artist bio
Experiencing Carington Swing live is to be transported back to a 1930's Parisian café.
Their fiery, yet romantic style pays homage to the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. Carington Swing remains faithful to the original instrumentation by featuring violin, bass and guitars, but pushes the sonic boundaries of Gypsy Jazz by mixing in the sounds of Latin, Eastern European folk, and Classical music in their original compositions and soloing.
Comprised of accomplished musicians from the Bay Area, the band is led by lead guitarist Christophe Carington. Christophe has lived in Paris, played Gypsy Jazz around the world, and has toured the US with the famous Hot Club of San Francisco.
