Rease Cameron

Rease Cameron (formerly Dave Goodman) is an Australian drummer, educator, and writer working across performance, pedagogy, and creative practice.

Described by jazz critic John Clare as “one of the leading drummers in the country” and “one of the most intriguing drummers recording anywhere,” Rease has performed and recorded with a wide range of leading Australian and international artists, including Joe Lovano, Paul Bollenback, Bernie McGann, James Morrison, Don Burrows, Vince Jones, and Mark Isaacs.

He is a longstanding member of Ten Part Invention and continues to collaborate across a range of ensembles and projects, bringing a highly developed melodic approach to the drumset and a deep commitment to improvisation as a living, evolving language.

Rease’s playing is recognised for its clarity, responsiveness, and distinctive voice—shaped by the lineage of drummers such as Jack DeJohnette, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Tony Williams, while remaining grounded in the specific demands of each musical context.

Alongside his performance work, Rease is the founder of The Boundless Realm and creator of Boundless Drumming, an evolving pedagogical approach that integrates technical development, musical awareness, and long-term artistic growth. His teaching draws on over three decades of experience and centres on helping students develop sustainable, self-directed practice and a clear sense of musical identity.

He holds a First Class Honours degree in Jazz Performance and a PhD in Jazz Drumset Performance Studies from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and has studied with leading figures including Billy Hart, Joe Morello, Jim Chapin, and Chad Wackerman.

As both performer and educator, Rease’s work continues to evolve across live performance, recording, and writing, with a focus on depth, clarity, and artistic continuity.
