Tauranga Alt-Rock Duo Midwave Breaks invite you to celebrate the release of their first full-length album, alongside Special Guests, with four shows across the Motu. Since launching in 2021, Midwave Breaks have captivated fans, across airwaves and stages around New Zealand, with 8 independent radio singles hitting the NZ Top 10 Rock Airplay Charts, a nod for Best Rock Act at the 2024 Aotearoa Music Awards, and Highlight-Reel live performances in support of Incubus, Live, and Devilskin. As a two-piece, Midwave Breaks deliver a huge sound, infectious live energy, and dynamic performance. Special guests for each show as follows: Wellington Nov 6, Moon Bar - Courtnay & The Unholy Reverie, and Van Brooks Mt Maunganui Nov 20, Totara Street - Courtnay & The Unholy Reverie, and Not Exact Auckland Nov 27, Double Whammy - The Response, and NoPilot Christchurch Dec 4, A Rolling Stone - The Response, and The Rainfall Echo. Tide. Awake. is the first full-length studio album from Midwave Breaks, featuring 13 new tracks for 2026 – all written, recorded, mixed, and mastered by the band themselves, in the spare room of a farmhouse, overlooking the Bay of Plenty coastline in New Zealand. Midwave Breaks reimagine the sounds of their youth through a modern lens, epitomized by 80’s-90’s alternative rock/pop - evoking hints of Springsteen and Petty, Cornell and Vedder, and a melting pot of musical influences from past to present. Echo. Tide. Awake. explores cyclical themes of time and perspective, reframing the past to better illuminate the present.

This audience and radio rapport is not surprising considering the band’s history; Drummer Paul Russell is a former member of the iconic multi-platinum-selling kiwi band Supergroove, as well as a performer with the International hit musical Stomp, and was inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame in 2014. Singer-songwriter Bruce Conlon brings his own accolades as a multi-instrumentalist, respected solo artist, and winner of two International Song-Writing Awards. The pair share a long history, first crossing musical paths at Lynfield College circa 1989, and through the late 90’s co-founded Auckland Rockers Eight, whose album release Moving achieved significant rock-radio airplay, and certified Gold sales via Sony/BMG.

Midwave Breaks have also made their presence felt on stage, as a two-piece delivering a huge sound, infectious live energy, and dynamic performance.

In 2024, the band were selected by International Acts Incubus and Live to open for their NZ Arena Tour, further widening their fanbase, and cementing the bands reputation as a formidable Live Act. They have partnered with The Rock and Sky City to perform a unique concert directly underneath the Sky Tower as part of the Rock 2000 Countdown 20th Anniversary. Other stand out performances include the Go Live Festival Christchurch, Oktoberfest Auckland, The Festival Of Lights Taranaki, The Great Kiwi Beer Fest Christchurch, as well as their own headline shows across the country. Through June/July 2025 they joined a mammoth Rock tour with 12 shows across NZ, alongside Villainy in support of hard-rock legends Devilskin.

Midwave Breaks debut Full Length Album 'Echo. Tide. Awake' is available from October 9 2026, on Vinyl, CD, and Streaming Services

“Opening Tauranga two-piece were for me, a revelation. I hadn’t heard of them before tonight and upon doing so was furiously Googling them to find out more. An unbelievable sonic wall coming from a guitarist/drummer duo” RNZ Review – Incubus & Live support

Midwave Breaks are a modern take on the soundtrack of their youth - epitomized by 80’s-90’s alternative rock/pop - evoking hints of Springsteen and Petty, Cornell and Vedder, and a melting pot of musical influences from past to present. Driven by the energy of the creative process, and with an innate ability to craft songs that capture a moment, Midwave Breaks are purposefully retrospective mixed with the new.
