Artist bio
The musical group Traffic Strings is a Romanian instrumental ensemble, founded in 2005 (with the first concert in 2006) by the violist and composer Lucian Moraru.
The band's name suggests a continuous musical "traffic" between eras and styles, the group being known for approaching an extremely varied repertoire that is not limited to a single genre.
Main features
• Musical style : A fusion between classical music, jazz, Argentine tango, Romanian folklore and even instrumental rock.
• Composition : Originally created as a string quintet, the ensemble has expanded to include instruments such as the Pan Flute , accordion, piano, and percussion. This unique tonal combination (especially the presence of the Pan Flute in a chamber music or jazz context) has become their trademark.
Notable collaborations : Their first major success was the collaboration with maestro Gheorghe Zamfir for a unique arrangement of Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons", presented on a major tour in Canada in 2006. The ensemble is a constant presence on important stages in Romania (Radio Hall, Romanian Athenaeum) and at international festivals or concert halls across Europe or Canada, being appreciated for the virtuosity of the instrumentalists and the originality of the arrangements signed by Lucian Moraru .
Discography and Projects
To date, the group has released several albums that reflect their stylistic diversity:
• Tango Finesse and Tango Aficionado : Dedicated to Argentine tango and the compositions of Astor Piazzolla.
• Romania Intemporel: A synthesis between Romanian classical music and Romanian popular tradition, including pieces by George Enescu, Ciprian Porumbescu, Constantin Silvestri, Bela Bartok, Dimitrie Cantemir, Paul Constantinescu and Lucian Moraru.
• Perpetuum Jazz and Seasons Rendez-vous : Recent releases (2024) that explore the universe of jazz and a fusion between Vivaldi's and Piazzolla's seasons, respectively.
