Part-performance and mini-presentation, this family-friendly event will explore the origin stories and lineages of protest songs, how their meanings and impacts continue to transform through time and space, and how they have inspired--and continue to inspire--movements and cultural shifts within the realms of racial and social justice. In addition, Pamela will also share her own experiences with becoming an artist and using her voice. A curated assortment of original songs and select, recognizable covers will be integrated into the presentation as a powerful demonstration of how grounding, unifying, and mobilizing protest songs can be.

Mt. Toby Concerts are presented by the Peace and Social Concerns Committee of the Mt. Toby Friends Meeting. We present monthly concerts, featuring singer-songwriters of music for social change, in service of the committee’s mission of working for social, economic and environmental justice.
Music for social change has the double advantage of addressing social justice issues on both the intellectual and emotional planes. It can stimulate, encourage, rally, console and educate, whether the topic of a song be about the past or present. Most encouraging are songs of hope for a peaceful future. We aim to do that through our music series.
We are located at:
194 Long Plain Rd. (Route 63), Leverett, MA 01054
