About this concert

Bully Hay brings an intimate acoustic set to life, stripping his songs back to their core. This time joined on drums and percussion by Drew Castles. Blending dark alt-rock storytelling with moments of warmth and lift, his performance moves between grit and grace, carried by rich vocals, layered harmonies and atmospheric textures.Following his 2024 debut Black Dogs and Songbirds (#7 ARIA CHARTS) — an 11-track release produced, recorded and mixed by Jeff Martin of The Tea Party — Bully Hay now enters a defining new chapter with his new, second album "Anywhere But Here" in hand which came in at #3 on the ARIA Charts for best Australian Album and #1 on the AIR Charts for best independent album.A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Bully has toured nationally, performing at Festival of Voices, Taste of Summer and Festivale, and supporting artists including Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) on two national tours, Monique Brumby, Dead Letter Circus, Ash Grunwald, The Wolfe Brothers and Boy & Bear. Audiences can expect honest lyrics, dynamic musicianship and a relaxed sense of connection in a room that feels more like a gathering than a gig. This is a chance to experience Bully Hay’s music in its simplest and most direct form. With special guest Garbiel Vargas.Fresh from a run of shows across Italy, Melbourne singer-songwriter Gabriel Vargas returns home joined by Italian guitarist Marco Troiano, with whom he spent the past month performing, writing and making music along the Italian coast. The shows follow the recent release of Gabriel’s latest single, “Eleanor Rigby’s Ghost,” recorded with an all-star cast of Australian musicians and mastered at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Gabriel and Marco are now looking forward to bringing their live collaboration to Ballarat before heading into the studio together to record new music.

Following his 2024 debut Black Dogs and Songbirds — an 11-track release produced, recorded and mixed by Jeff Martin of The Tea Party and mastered by Grammy-nominated Joe Carra — Bully Hay now enters a defining new chapter with his upcoming album, Anywhere But Here.

Raw, heartfelt and unfiltered, Anywhere But Here captures the chaos of trying to keep your head above water while quietly being pulled beneath the undertow. Exploring the tension between survival and surrender, the album blends 80s-tinged atmosphere with modern alt-rock punch — driving guitars, cinematic textures and anthemic choruses designed to hit hard. The songwriting is direct and deeply human, written for late nights, long drives and anyone fighting to become something more.

Black Dogs and Songbirds introduced Bully Hay’s rare versatility, moving from tender ballads to soaring, guitar-driven rock, firmly anchored in the landscapes and emotional pull of Tasmania’s south-east. Jeff Martin praised his dynamic range and natural vocal ability, calling his versatility “very rare.”

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist, Bully has toured nationally, performing at Festival of Voices, Taste of Summer and Festivale, and supporting artists including Jeff Martin (The Tea Party) on two national tours, Monique Brumby, Dead Letter Circus, Ash Grunwald, The Wolfe Brothers and Boy & Bear.
