Underground Lovers are super excited to celebrate 30 years of their acclaimed independent album, Rushall Station, at a special afternoon show at The Corner on Sunday 4 October. Rushall Station was a pivotal record for Underground Lovers. It was their first independent long-play, a self-funded and defiant release after some tumultuous music industry dealings in the years prior. Recorded with producer Wayne Connolly in January 1996, the album was a further move toward the songcraft and songwriting explored on 1994's Triple J favourite, Dream It Down. Underground Lovers continued to work against the current trends and styles, producing an album rich with guitar layers, symphonic bass, sparse string arrangements, subtle electronica and cutting, yet melodic, lyrics. The album was originally launched at The Corner Hotel in 1996, and it is exciting for the band to be playing these songs again at the same venue 30 years on. It is especially timely with The Corner celebrating its own 30th anniversary. The band toured the Rushall Station album extensively throughout 1996, including performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas. The record went on to be nominated for Best Independent Release at the ARIA Awards that year. The upcoming anniversary show will focus on key tracks from the album, complemented by strings from Zoë Barry and Amanda Brown (Go-Betweens). A selection of iconic tracks from the Underground Lovers back catalogue will close out the set. This special afternoon gig will be a delight for old-school Undies enthusiasts, as well as younger fans who missed the album the first time around. A reissue of the original Derek J.
