Dearest Gorillaz,
It’s the music that we choose that can bring us back to life and I am just one of the many examples.
I was in a car accident on Black Friday in November of 2002. A passerby noticed my car in the ditch and called 911. I was flown by LifeFlight to Miller-Dwan Medical Center in Duluth, Minnesota and immediately underwent a craniotomy to reduce the swelling in my brain. I was placed in a medically induced coma for a month.
While my brain was recovering at a snail’s pace, my parents played all of my favorite music. When I came out of my coma I could not read or write or walk, but I knew almost all of the lyrics from those special songs.
Music lifted me out of this deep sleep and music continued to push me forward and persevere and never give up. Thank all of you for helping me endure and overcome!
Thanks also, Mr. Albarn, for waving to us in the very top rows. I requested anything by “The Gorillaz” on DC 101 the night before, and Alex Mac, the super-cool DJ, chose “Feel Good Inc.” to get me pumped up. He also told me to have TWICE as much fun at the show for him. I had TEN TIMES as much fun and brought home that night memories that will last a lifetime.
