Justin Colvard Biography

Justin Colvard was only 2 years old when he found his passion for music. Justin has a very unique talent. At a young age, Justin's father, Jerry taught him how to play "Amazing Grace" on his 12 string acoustic. Justin is left handed, so he naturally held this right handed guitar upside down and backwards. Justin went on and continued to self teach on a right handed guitar, and that's how he plays it now - Upside down and backwards - His family from generation to generation has always played music! So it just comes natural!

In 2003, at the age of 18 Justin moved out of his parents house in Allen Texas to Nashville, Tn. to pursue what he thought was going to be an overnight success story in Country Music. Little did he know that there was 10,000 other 18 year olds with the same dream. He didn't give up though!

Some of his experiences in Nashville include, being hired on at Tootsies Orchid Lounge and played 4 hour shows daily in the back room of Tootsies. While performing a show at Tootsies one night, a man went up to Justin and offered him a job singing demo's for songwriters. This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up!

Also, getting the opportunity to visit the Grand Ole' Opry and sing and perform a song on stage was a very breath taking experience, just taking in who had stood in that circle before. Justin was able to get a band of his own together while in Nashville and played in many clubs outside of Nashville. While playing music as much as he could in Nashville, he worked at the Wildhorse Saloon on 2nd Ave. as Security. Nightly, he was able to watch and be around major recording artists, which essentially fueled his passion for music that much more! Justin also worked at the Iconic Nashville Palace, where many country music super stars got there start (such as Randy Travis), he was a dish washer there when he got recognized. Justin got to watch great legends most every night visit this venue/restaurant like the legendary Vern Gosdin and Jack Green. While working at the Nashville Palace, Justin went into work one night and there happened to be a music video being shot by Toby Keith. Justin was picked to be a featured face in the music video. Although they only used a couple shots of Justin in the Honky Tonk U video, it was a very surreal experience to say the least!

Justin moved back to Texas in the Summer of 2005 and continued his musical journey. His songwriting at this point had improved due to life experiences in Nashville and songwriting sessions at ASCAP. He went to several open mic nights around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Justin was also fortunate to have shared the stage on some of these nights opening up for greats such as Rusty Wier, Zane Williams, Deryl Dodd, 1100 Springs, Max Stalling, Mark David Manders, Randy Hopper, and Ed Burleson.

While playing at Love and War in Plano Tx one evening, Justin got invited by a radio personality, Bruce Kidder to be featured on a weekly songwriters night that was live on the radio. He was also invited to the radio station for a live interview! He says "just for someone to hear what you are trying to portray through a song, and for them to tell you that they love that song and like what they hear is what making music is all about!"

In 2009, Justin moved to Brighton, Mo. where him and his Father got a band together. (Justin Colvard and the Taste of Texas Band) Justin couldn't have been happier to have his Dad behind him on drums night after night! With no backing and just word of mouth and daily hustle on the phone Justin was able to get shows booked with no demo, pictures, anything. Justin told venue owners "Just take my word, if you don't like what you hear during soundcheck, then we will leave"!

After doing a couple shows they were able to get a 3 song demo done. One of those songs were fortunate to get picked up on local radio here in Missouri. While with the Taste of Texas Band, we were able to grow a decent following in a short amount of time and got the great opportunity to open up and play with some well known bands such as, Miranda Lambert, Jackson Taylor and the Sinners, and No Justice.

In the later part of 2010, The Taste of Texas Band split up. Justin hasn't done much since then as far as playing out. He hasn't stopped his song writing. He says "as a musician, whether you are actively playing out or not, your brain doesn't stop thinking about it, and when a song comes to you, you stop what your doing and put it on paper! It only takes one!"

In November of 2017, Justin purchased a home recording studio. This made it possible to put all of the words that were on paper, into some ears! Justin currently is a one man operation, but will soon be looking to get a strong team together and keep his musical journey going!

His current single "Alcohol" is being played on multiple radio stations throughout Texas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.
