Steve Itterly Biography
Steve Itterly is a singer-songwriter with a penchant for conjuring up images we all find familiar. He draws from a deep well of American musical traditions and delivers a sincere down-home vibe like a true storyteller. His musical calling began as an early teen. Introduced to Clapton, Dylan, John Hurt, and Robert Johnson by his father, Steve felt moved by these legends, their passion, and the raw potential of their guitar and vocal styles.
Itterly called New York home until venturing to Boston after college. There, he studied country-blues and ragtime guitar with local all stars, Paul Rishell and George Radcliff Thomas. It was in Colorado though, that Steve found his own voice and started writing songs. He has since shared a bill with musical titans like Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Steve Winwood, Jack Broadbent, and Anders Osborne.
Steve is a solo performer creating a unique and distinct personal acoustic experience. His music draws upon the rich tapestry of honest rhythms falling somewhere between early jazz, blues, swing, folk and the tangible comforts of home. Bridging the likes of Woody Guthrie and Piedmont Blues, his lyrics are anchored by the rustic, country texture in his voice. He is a winner of the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Blues Challenge Competition, and is also a recognized songwriter from the Telluride Troubadour National Songwriter Competition. His music is compared to the talents of John Prine and with a voice just this side of the gravel he ‘sounds a bit like Bob Dylan’.
Steve’s music is made of the stuff of mountain air and dusty roads. While it’s not the easiest ambiance to pin down, it finds itself in the coziest corners and makes your bones dance.
