Floyd Lavine Biography

FLOYD LAVINE (AFRIKAN TALES)
An African nomad, Floyd Lavine mines inspiration wherever he goes. Dubbed Afrofuturistic techno funk his sound has grown from his roots in South Africa and been soldered via stints in London and his adopted hometown of Berlin.
This unique sonic signature has attracted top level support from the likes of RA, BBC Radio 6 Music, Vogue Italia, The Wire and staple dance press including Mixmag and DJ Mag. In 2019 he received a DJ Award nomination in the ‘Afro House’ category.
Moving to Berlin in 2016 he co-founded RISE, a collective that was instrumental in establishing an Afro House scene in the German capital, staging monthly events at Watergate and across Europe.
Floyd’s sound is the sum of his parts; cross-genre, with broad appeal; he’s played everywhere from CTM Festival, Panorama Bar and Black Coffee’s Ibiza residency. In summer 2022, he’s set for Diynamic Festival alongside Solomun and Marcel Dettmann, reinforcing his stylistic breadth.
Production highlights include releases and remixes on Moon Harbour, Dogmatik, Rise Music, Watergate Records and Soul Clap Records. Fan and industry favourites include a remix of Coldcut & Tony Allen (the late great drummer from Fela Kutti) and a re-work of Kerri Chandler’s ‘Think of Something’, no less.
In 2022, Floyd’s focus is firmly on Afrikan Tales, his fledgling label project aimed at exploring African creativity and storytelling, focusing on bespoke music and showcasing artists from the African continent and others around the world who are inspired by the rich African culture.
Outside of DJing and production, Floyd continues his residency on Refuge Worldwide, Berlin’s beloved community radio project.
