SPEED Biography

Biography – SPEED
Real name: Bazabidila Maick Spider Whisper
Artist name: SPEED
Nationality: Congolese 🇨🇬
Born: May 29, 1990, in Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville)

SPEED is a Congolese rapper, singer, and storyteller whose music blends French and American rap influences with personal and social themes. Born in Pointe-Noire, Republic of the Congo, he discovered his passion for music at a young age and quickly turned it into a lifelong calling.

In 2006, he co-founded the group A.R. (Académie du Rap) alongside friends Arland (deceased in 2017) and MC Sros (who later left the music scene). Their debut single, "Aujourd’hui c’est l’apparition", became a local hit, resonating in clubs and live shows across Pointe-Noire.

In 2007, the group placed second in a talent competition organized by Bakus El Maestro and Michel Agathon. But in 2008, the group disbanded as SPEED focused on his studies, eventually earning his high school diploma in 2011.

Reconnecting with music in 2012, he turned to Facebook to share his songs internationally and build a growing fanbase. Despite local doubts — where people often said “music doesn’t pay” — he stayed committed.

With encouragement from American musicians, SPEED learned how to distribute his music on legal platforms like Amazon, Deezer, and Spotify. In 2018, he released the single "Sans Rancune", which marked a turning point in his career. He followed this in 2020 with "Le Rêve", a single and video that gained international exposure on major platforms such as Billboard.com, RollingStone.com, MTV.com, and Popjustice.com, amassing over 10,000 impressions.

In 2023, SPEED dropped his debut album “Révolution.” While the album didn’t achieve the success he hoped for — mainly due to a lack of promotion — he didn’t give up. Instead, he took the opportunity to sharpen his skills by earning three music certificates from Berklee College of Music via Coursera, in singing, music production, and the music industry.

Today, SPEED uses his music to raise awareness on key global issues such as environmental protection, HIV/AIDS prevention, and true-life stories drawn from reality. He’s also a contributor to the “Journal Rappé” project, which blends news and socially conscious rap.
