About this concert
Melbourne/Naarm post-punk band screensaver launch their third album Three Lens Approach at The Tote on November 15th. Taking cues from the late 70’s and early 80’s, screensaver delivers a third LP that builds on its predecessors. Asymmetrical song structures are propelled forward by a more than danceable rhythm section weaving through polyrhythms of classic synth sounds and frenetic guitars. The album’s theme is power; how we wield it through language and action, how society is affected by existing power structures, the consequences of the absence of it and how we harness it, as individuals and as the collective. The lyrics explore the theme through societal observation, miniature character portraits and vignettes of stolen scenes from everyday life/conversations. Recorded by Julian Cue and mastered by Casey Rice, Three Lens Approach is released via Poison City Records. Joined on the night by a stacked line up of Tongue Dissolver, Lothario and Armour.

screensaver Biography
screensaver balance frenetic energy with unsettling tonalities to create rhythmic gloom that rides the new wave to the synth-punk.
Spending three years in an incubatory state, the band began as a trans Pacific collaboration between Christopher Stephenson (Spray Paint/Exek) and Krystal Maynard (Bad Vision/ex Polo) in 2016. By 2019 Christopher had long since relocated to Melbourne and the pair recruited Giles Fielke (ex Low Tide) and James Beck (Personal Touch/ex Rat Columns) on bass and drums respectively to form a live band. Giles stayed with the band until 2022 before leaving to focus on family. The band is now joined by Dorian Vary (Soundtrackmusic) on bass/synth and Jonnine Nokes (Horse Pills) on synth.
The band have released two albums and a 7-inch to date, their debut Expressions of Interest (2021) on Heavy Machinery Records (AUS) and Upset the Rhythm (UK) and Decent Shapes (2023) on Poison City Records (AUS) and Upset the Rhythm (UK). Both records received praise across the likes of NME, Rolling Stone, Maximum Rock ‘n’ Roll, Brooklyn Vegan to mention a few.
screensaver have toured Australia, embarked on two international tours, the USA in September 2022, playing Gonerfest 19 in Memphis, Tennessee and the UK and Europe in August 2024 including Get Lost Fest X in Hamburg, Germany. They’ve also shared bills with Tropical Fuck Storm, Party Dozen, Snooper and more.
