Checkpoint Biography
Are Checkpoint the loudest band going round? Probably not… but they try.
This delirious Frenzy punk supergroup featuring members of Hobsons Bay Coast Guard, Pinch Points, Dr. Sure’s Unusual Practice, Gutter Girls and Dragnet set out to send you into upside down hyperspace with their machine-like rhythms, redlined guitars and distorted vocals.
Started in 2023 as a fun side project from his regular mixing and production work, Erik Scerba set out to see what would happen if he turned all his studio knobs up full and played the guitar as fast as he possibly could. After showing his mates all these frenetic demos, the idea eventuated into the 6 person behemoth that is Checkpoint.
Since their formation in 2023, Checkpoint have quickly established themselves deep in the creative grooves of Naarm/ Melbourne’s prolific underground punk scene, playing festivals like Goom and Brunswick Music Festival and supporting punk heavyweights Private Function, Party Dozen, Vintage Crop, Drunk Mums and USA’s Dark Thoughts.
Their 2023 record, DRIFT was released via ETT in Germany and Henry Rollins called it ‘The coolest record I’ve listened to over the past couple of days’.
