About this concert
Two of the Melbourne indie scene’s rock pig darlings are joining forces for an almighty party, and bringing their bands with them. Kate Alexander crowbars open a new set of songs stinging with post-punk bite, snarling lyricism, and a raw, urgent energy. Her band is great. She’s joined by the greatest gorgina of them all, Emilee South, known for her explosive blend of garage rock, punk swagger, and THAT VOICE. With her latest album Luxury, Emilee dives deep into themes of power, burnout, and resilience — all delivered with magnetic stagecraft via a full-throttle band. Together, they promise a very good time.

Emilee South Biography

Emilee South plays fervent and charging rock music.

Combining the raw edge of punk with the driving force of rock, South shouts unapologetically over chaotic guitar riffs and driving rhythms to themes of capitalism, feminism, privilege, and the power of community. With influences ranging from Grinderman and IDLES to Sharon Van Etten, the band transition seamlessly from exciting hooks to unyielding power.

South and band (Matt Dixon, William Lee and Dan Berry) have released two EPs to sold-out crowds, performed at LuliePalooza, Bigsound, Americana Music Festival, St Kilda Fest and Brunswick Music Festival; and Emilee has just wrapped up a huge East Coast tour this summer supporting Phil Jamieson.

Emilee South has also supported notable acts Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, The Teskey Brothers and Mo’Ju, and has seen support from radio and press like RRR, PBS, Double J, Beat, Pilerats and The Music.

Produced by Anna Laverty, their new single ‘CONTROL’ is out April 11. South & band will be celebrating the release with a residency at The Gem every Friday in April, with Aquatico, Slomo, Hot Glue, Mansplainers and Ali Flintoff + DJs until late.
