BBQ Pope Biography
Toronto based garage-psych-punk trio BBQ Pope have been rocking the Canadian music scene since 2015, starting out playing backyard parties, DIY basement shows and many packed club rooms. The band's dynamic songwriting and exciting live performances have led them to become a staple of the city's underground garage rock scene. Combining infectious melodies with grooving bass lines, driving punk rhythms, shoe-gaze guitars, and witty introspective lyricism ("BBQ Pope is like if Nirvana and the Pixies had a baby"). Upon returning from a three-year hiatus in December 2023, the band found themselves with a re-invigorated sense of joy for performing, a matured sound, and a humbled appreciation for connecting through their music. 2024 became the bands most successful year yet; seeing them complete a slew of inter-provincial tour dates, and the recording of a new nine-song sophomore album (set to be released in 2025).
BBQ Pope's existing and ever-growing cult-like fanbase has lots to look forward to from the band, with more dates and music to be announced in the coming months. BBQ Pope have toured Ontario and Eastern Canada, performed hundreds of shows including at CMW, Indie Week, and many other independent festivals, opened for artists like Wine Lips, Luna Li, The Dirty Nil, Fat Tony, Goodbye Honolulu and many more—and have released one album, two EP's, and several singles. BBQ Pope is: Reid Millar (bass/vocals), Sean Hackl (guitar/vocals) and Duncan Briggs (drums).
