VERYSHOW PRODUCTIONS PRÉSENTE : LA DISPUTECela fait six ans que La Dispute a sorti son dernier album, « Panorama ». Depuis, le groupe post-hardcore du Michigan, composé de Jordan Dreyer au chant, Brad Vander Lugt à la batterie, Chad Morgan-Sterenberg et Corey Stroffolino à la guitare, et Adam Vass à la basse, a dû faire face à la stagnation causée par la pandémie, a célébré les dix ans de « Wildlife » et « Rooms Of The House, » et a commencé à travailler sur « No One Was Driving The Car ». Le cinquième album studio est le premier entièrement produit par le groupe, et il a été enregistré à Grand Rapids et Detroit, au Royaume-Uni, en Australie et aux Philippines : « Je pense que le changement d'environnement a vraiment contribué à insuffler une nouvelle vie au processus à chaque fois que nous y revenions », explique Dreyer.En partie inspiré par le thriller psychologique « First Reformed » sorti en 2017, « No One Was Driving The Car » traite du malaise qui règne dans l'ombre d'une apocalypse imminente, sensiblement aggravé par les progrès technologiques. Le titre est tiré d'une citation d'un policier que Dreyer a lue dans un article de presse sur un accident mortel impliquant une Tesla autonome, un événement absurde qui soulève des questions sur le contrôle que nous avons sur nos propres vies. Au fil de quatorze titres dynamiques, le groupe aborde ce thème existentiel et le besoin humain de trouver du réconfort et un sentiment de sécurité dans une existence où nous sommes souvent plongés dans le chaos sans y consentir. Dreyer crie avec une énergie plus primitive et chante de manière plus raffinée, tandis que les guitares sont plus incisives que jamais. « Même si je n'apprécie pas le processus créatif parce qu'il est épuisant et souvent peu amusant, je pense aussi que c'est ce que j'ai de plus amusant », réfléchit Dreyer. « Ce sont les révélations que vous faites, les percées. C'est se cogner la tête contre un mur et soudain, quelque chose se déclenche d'une manière qui semble presque divine, comme si cela venait d'ailleurs. »La Dispute viendra défendre ce nouvel album le 14 mars prochain à la Maroquinerie, accompagnés des groupes VS Self et Pijn.

venue was very intimate; allowing everyone present to really connect with the artists (as they were like at an arm's length). the pre-acts were very good and when la dispute came on, jordan really elevated the performance by spinning and dancing the whole time! people were handed out water and checked out- everyone really looked out for everyone. with the venue's comforting atmosphere also... the whole performance was a lot more enjoyable. i would definitely, if theres another chance, see 'la dispute' again AND visit stay gold for it's venue!

La Dispute Biography
It’s been six years since La Dispute released their last album, Panorama. Since then, the Michigan post-hardcore band—made up of Jordan Dreyer on vocals, Brad Vander Lugt on drums, Chad Morgan-Sterenberg and Corey Stroffolino on guitar, and Adam Vass on bass—dealt with the stagnance of the pandemic, celebrated the ten-year anniversaries of Wildlife and Rooms Of The House, and began working on No One Was Driving The Car. The fifth studio LP is the first entirely produced by the group, and it came together in Grand Rapids and Detroit, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines: “I think the change in environment was really helpful to breathing new life into the process each time we came back to it,” Dreyer says.
Partly inspired by the 2017 psychological thriller First Reformed, No One Was Driving The Car reckons with malaise in the shadow of the looming apocalypse, which has noticeably been worsened by the advancement of tech. The title comes from a quote from a police officer Dreyer read in a news article about a lethal self-driving Tesla crash, an absurd event which raises questions about the amount of control we have in our own lives. In fourteen dynamic tracks, the band grapples with the existential topic and the human need to find comfort and a sense of security in an existence where we’re often thrust into chaos without permission. Dreyer yells with a more primal sense and sings in a more refined way, and the guitars have a sharper edge than ever before. “As much as I don’t enjoy the creative process because it’s taxing and often not fun, I also think it’s the most fun that I ever have,” Dreyer contemplates. “It’s the revelations you make, the breakthroughs. It’s banging your head against a wall and suddenly something clicks in a way that feels almost divine, like it came from somewhere else.”
