Cabiria Biography
The name Cabiria comes from a film of the same name released in 1914, directed by Giovanni Pastrone. It’s a very melodramatic film, featuring volcanic eruptions, wars and child-eating Gods. I’m not sure what all of this says about a band that chose to reference this in their moniker, but the level of bombast and grandeur in the film definitely feels apt when thinking of it alongside Cabiria’s aggressive, cinematic, genre-bending musical style.
Formed in 2019, London-based instrumental trio Cabiria have consistently strived to make music that they would want to listen to. Featuring ultra-tight performances and inventive uses of effects, there’s a sense of honesty at its core which lends an emotional backdrop to all of their compositions. This is typified in the band’s upcoming album, 'How Long's The Drive?', due for release in Autumn 2024. A true statement of intent, this record shows Kye (drums), Stu (bass) and Rory (guitar) flexing their muscles with searing post metal grooves, technical progressive passages, fusion-inspired interludes and lilting ambient melodies.
