Iron Jaw Biography
Most headbangers became aware of IRON JAW with the 2020 release of their debut CD Chain of Command, which was described by Judas Priest guitarist KK Downing’s website as: “Metal in the classic tradition.” The popular Australian website Sentinel Daily added: “Their new CD, Chain of Command, is a quite superb synthesis of most of the Gods of the old school.”
Chain of Command was produced by Josh Woodward, who gave the eight tracks a clear, metallic punch. Underground Power Records licensed the CD for European Release, which led to more exposure from Europe’s metal-mad media. Not wanting to tamper with a winning formula, IRON JAW enlisted Josh again at the beginning of last year, to record and produce seven new tracks.
“Tonight We Raid” was the first of these tracks to be released, premiering last October. “…Raid” is a rousing call-to-arms for fans of IRON JAW’s Texas-style heavy metal, and helped set the stage for the mystical “Pyromancer” and the sprawling “… Golden Dawn.”
IRON JAW is comprised of the earth-shaking vocals of Todd Pack, the twin guitars of Rick Perry and Jeff Brown, and the thundering rhythm section of bassist Clay McCarty and drummer Randy Cook.
The band members have deep roots in the D/FW music scene, having played in bands for decades. Guitarist Rick Perry is known to underground die-hards for the blistering thrash of Gammacide in the late 80’s. Before forming Iron Jaw in 2017, he was a key member of Warbeast, who released several albums on Phil Anselmo’s Housecore Records. Randy Cook has played both drums and bass for thrash pioneers Rotting Corpse, and a slew of other North Texas bands. Vocalist Todd Pack has played drums for Creeper, Horror Cult, and Hallows Eve as well as sang for cover bands Alcohollica and Iron Priest. Jeff Brown was guitarist for Plague Allegiance and Toxic, while Clay Mccarty played bass with Toxic and Gas Chamber.
IRON JAW's strength lies is rock-solid song writing skills. Their material is crafted with hooks, dynamics, and a melodic approach that is seldom heard among the current breed of metal bands. As the noted webzine Underground Empire asserts: “No old school metalhead will be disappointed with IRON JAW”
