Frank Sultana Biography
In January 2023, among a field of 150 artists from around the world, Australian bluesman Frank Sultana competed in and won the solo/duo section of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.
He is only the third Australian to do so in the events 38 year history.
Just 2 days after this historic win, he spent 4 hours at the iconic Sun Studios in Memphis, and recorded what would become 'The Ghosts of Sun', his new album.
He selected 12 original songs from his 12 year back catalog and delivered them in a raw stripped back traditional blues style, with just guitar , voice and stomp box
On his return to Australia a few weeks later he brought in fellow south coast musician , harp player Dan Sullivan and added some extra touches to the original session recording.
The result is the fabulous sounding 'The Ghosts of Sun' album
In the meantime Frank has put together a powerhouse blues band featuring Adrian Herbert on drums, Mick Malouf on bass and Dan Sullivan on harp.
"After several years playing solo or with a large network of players right along the east coast, it feels great to have a consistent solid line up to tour with" says Frank
With his blues band Frank has since graced many festival stages here in Australia, including Bluesfest and Blues on Broadbeach, and played sold out headline shows through the first half of 2023
The rest of the year will be spent launching and performing the new album, with a national tour booked, including the official launch at the Paddo RSL in Sydney on July 22
In Aug/Sept he will return to the USA to perform at the Durango Blues Train in Colorado and the Big Blues Bender festivals in Las Vegas Nevada
