Kandle Biography
Kandle is a force in Canada’s alternative rock scene — a haunting, powerful voice delivering beautiful dark poetry over cinematic soundscapes that feel torn from a David Lynch or Tarantino soundtrack.
Since her breakthrough 2014 album In Flames (Dare To Care Records), which earned a Juno nomination, a Prism Prize Fan Choice Award, and multiple GAMIQ nods, Kandle has captivated critics and fans alike. The album catapulted her into national and international press (Spin, Billboard, Nylon, Elle, Flare, Voir) and established a devout fanbase drawn to her stark honesty and singular vision and hypnotic powerful music.
Renowned for her fearless songwriting and production, Kandle crafts songs steeped in shadowy atmosphere, intoxicating melodies, and raw emotional truth — drawing comparisons to Portishead and PJ Harvey. Over the years, she has collaborated with artists such as Jack White, Apashe, Coeur de Pirate, July Talk, Half Moon Run’s Devon Portielje, Sam Roberts, and Peter Dreimanis. She even starred in Jack White’s award-winning short film Corporation, further cementing her reputation as a multidisciplinary creative force.
Her self-produced latest album, Danger to Dream, is her boldest work yet: hypnotic, edgy, and emotionally fearless. Laced with distorted guitars, sexy beats, and soaring harmonies, her songs dive unflinchingly into toxicity, heartbreak, and resilience. They speak to the loners and the forgotten — intimate yet cinematic, raw yet ethereal.
Together with her co-producer and multi-instrumentalist Jeffrey Mitchell — whose vocals draw comparisons to David Bowie and Lee Hazlewood — Kandle continues to push sonic boundaries.
Now fully independent and in creative control, Kandle has emerged as not only a singular vocalist, but also a visionary songwriter and producer with an unwavering artistic compass.
Kandle doesn’t just make music — she builds haunting worlds of sound and story. And once you enter them, it’s impossible to look away.
