About this concert
SHAM 69 - Original 1977 Lineup featuring Jimmy Pursey, Dave Parsons, Treganna (Kermit) and Spike Sham 69 are one of the original British Punk Rock bands. In July 1977 Jimmy met with Miles Copeland (manager of The Police) who was running Step Forward & Illegal records. Jimmy scored a slot headlining the Acklam Hall on 21st July 1977. The support bands; Chelsea, The Lurkers & The Cortinas were all on Step Forward records, it was inevitable that Sham 69 would put out the first single on Step Forward and released 'I Dont Wanna' in August 1977. Sham 69 were soon packing venues and due to the success of the 'I Dont Wanna' single, Polydor Records signed Sham 69 for a 4 album contract. Albie Slider was replaced by Dave Treganna (Kermit) after a fight broke out in the recording studio when Dave Parsons replaced Albert's bass. January 1978 Polydor released the 'Borstal Breakout' single which didn't chart but a month later the 'Tell Us The Truth' album was released and reached No 25. April 30th 1978 Jimmy joined The Clash on stage at Victoria Park for Rock Against Racism. Later that week Polydor released their 2nd Sham 69 single 'Angels With Dirty Faces' which got the band on Top Of The Pops. In July 1978 the release of the single 'If The Kids Are United' catapulted Sham 69 into the media spot-light. That summer Sham played the Reading Festival along with The Jam. October 1978 saw the release of the 2nd Sham 69 album 'That's Life' and a new single 'Hurry Up Harry' which charted making the top 10. Questions & Answers was released in March 79 which was another hit and in July 79 the 'Hersham Boys' single was released which became Sham 69's biggest hit. Sham 69 are a formidable live act with the quality, energy, 1977 sound and are headlining major festivals such as Rebellion and key festivals worldwide. dont miss them Official website http://www.theevolutionofpunk.com Official facebook pages @sham69net @officialsham69 Sham 69 - Jimmy Pursey https://www.facebook.com/Graeme.Sham69 plus special guests on a full length headline set in support to celebrate their 45th anniversary ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE After their triumphant sold out show at the waterfront venue in 2024 and full support from the fans nationwide, the band returns for another blistering show.... in recent years the band have been welcomed back to play Download Festival and to play Metallica’s 30th Anniversary along with shows at all major uk venues and worldwide and all major punk festivals. Life rolls on and we all change for the better. Punk is of course is about free speech and shock, but we can safely say these guys have matured into great people and a great live act over the years and have certainly brushed off those unwanted cobwebs of the past The band officially started in 1980 as a four piece band, with original members, Animal, Magoo ,Bones and Baggy. They played a few shows together at local venues and soon got a reputation for being an obnoxious band with a bad attitude. By 1981 the band had written and recorded their first album ‘We are the League’ which was at no 1 for many weeks in the independent charts along with 3 singles ‘Streets of London’, ’I Hate People’ and ‘Woman’, although the album was very successful for the band it did not include the song ‘So What’ because of legal restraints so the band took the album on the road for the now infamous ‘So What Tour’ . It was in 1991 that the band made the decision to get back together thanks to Metallica covering their song ‘So What’ and asking Animal to join them up on stage to sing the song ‘live’ with them at Wembley. The band are firing on all cylinders, have toured with bands such as Motorhead and Rancid and played the big festivals like Download and Rebellion. Also Animal re joined Metallica back up on stage to play their 30th birthday bash in San Francisco which proved with out a doubt that Metal and Punk can stand side by side. In 2016 the band released their definitive album ‘the Cage’ which is an insight of how “we all live in cages we have built for ourselves” and has been hailed as their finest to date. 2017 saw the release of their ‘covers’ album ‘League Style’…. Loosen up volume 1’ a collection of Reggae songs that Animal and Winston grew up with, but giving the songs a ‘guitar feel’ incorporating Tom’s magnificent guitar work. the band are now playing live and recording more material...doing what they do best’…… swimming against the flow of the controlled music business’, again proving Punk is the last music rebellion and is still a major music force to be reckoned with. After a couple of rehearsals they made their first recording ‘Elvis Is Dead’ which appeared on the Vaultage ‘78 compilation of Brighton new wave bands. Radio 1 DJ John Peel loved the song instantly and produced a John Peel session with the TEST TUBE BABIES. The success was breath taking and PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES became one of the hottest unsigned bands in the UK overnight. The first single ‘Banned From The Pubs’ followed fast, and fans and press freaked out in equal measure. From that moment everything went crazy, sold out concert halls in England and Europe and their big success in the media pushed their debut album Pissed And Proud to #1 in the English independent charts. Directly after that The Mating Sounds Of South American Frogs was released – a must have for every record collection – and sold more than 100.000 copies, resulting in invitations from far and wide. THE TEST TUBES BABIES played shows all over the world and cemented their status as one of the most brilliant and funniest live bands in punk rock culture. They also had the honour to represent the United Kingdom at the historical MTV East/West party to celebrate the fall of the Berlin wall. A few bass players and drummers have served their time in the band, but the songwriters Peter & Del have always been the foundation of PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES and together wrote records like Soberphobia, and the brilliant Supermodels, which brought them their comeback in 1995. Around this time the DVD Paralitico (Spanish: crazy disturbed perception, elicited by alcoholic and other suggestive excesses) was released , followed triumphantly by the albums A Foot Full Of Bullets and For A Few Bullets More with the guest appearances of Campino ( DIE TOTEN HOSEN ) and Olga from THE TOY DOLLS. All three products sold out worldwide. In 2017 The band signed with Arising Empire Records and in 2018 & 2020 saw the releases of 'That Shallot' and 'Fuctifano' Two of the bands best albums to date. The unstoppable force that is PETER AND THE TEST TUBE BABIES goes from strength to strength and remains indestructible. Anti-Nowhere League Biography

The Anti-Nowhere League is a UK Punk band formed in 1980, by lead singer Animal (real name Nick Kulmer) and rhythm guitarist Magoo (real name Chris Exall), with Bones on Drums and Baggy Elvy on Bass. Their first gig was at Tunbridge Wells, on the day of the annual carnival, at which they promptly got arrested. This led to their first press coverage with the local newspaper describing their gig as a 'cacophany of noise'. In 1981, Gooky (who left the same year), Hopper and Clive "Winston" Blake came in on Lead Guitar, Drums and Bass respectively, although Hopper was quickly replaced with PJ ('Persian John') (real name Djahanshah Aghssa). They managed to get a slot in the Apocylypse tour along with The Exploited, Chron Gen and Anti Pasti. This led to them signing to John Curd's record label WXYZ, with Curd and Chris Gabrin co-managing the band.

Later that year, they also opened for The Damned on a short tour round the north of England. November 1981 saw the release of their first single, a cover version of Ralph McTell's 'Streets of London', with the song that was to become the group's anthem, 'So What' on the B side.

In 1982, things were looking good for the band, with the 'So What Tour' in the company of such groups as Chelsea, Chron Gen and the Defects, and the release of their debut album We Are...The League. However, the Obscene Publications Squad seized all copies of their records, which were removed from shops and they were banned from TV and Radio. To top it all, they were thrown out of the Top Of The Pops studio...just because Animal happened to be carrying a 3ft axe around with him! However the year finished on a high, with the 'Hardcore Storms America' tour with the UK Subs.

Anti-Nowhere League LogoGilly (real name Mark Gilham) joined the band in 1983 as an extra guitarist, which according to the bands website,[1], was because Magoo was drinking heavily and was often unable to carry out his commitments as guitarist. The band went to Yugoslavia to record a live album, imaginatively called Live In Yugoslavia, but even this was dogged by problems with the authorities insisting that references that Animal had made about recently deceased president Tito be removed from the master tapes, and any language which they deemed to be offensive be bleeped (including a few "when’s", "it’s" and "ands" according to Animal!).

By 1984, things were not looking too good. PJ quit, unable to cope with the pressures of the drugs and alcohol lifestyle the band were now leading and they were musically inactive. 1985 saw Michael Bettel on the drums, followed in 1986 by JB (Jonathan Birch). During this time they signed for GWR Records, and recorded the Perfect Crime album. However, once again there were problems, when GWR refused to put up the money to finish the album once they heard its rough cut, and it was released unfinished to try to get back some of the money already invested in it. This was the final straw, and in 1987 ANWL disbanded. There was a "Farewell" show in 1989.

Fast forward to 1992, and Animal was working on his car, in the rain. The phone went, and it was JB, with the news that Metallica wanted Animal to guest at Wembley Arena, when they did their cover of 'So What'. Apparently Animals response was "Who the fuck are Metallica?, and anyway I'm working on my car!!" JB phoned back later, and managed to persuade Animal to do the slot. Animal put it thus on ANWL's website. "As I waited on the edge of the stage waiting to go on it suddenly dawned on me I was just about to stand in front of 10,000 punters who didn’t know me from Adam and sing a song that I couldn’t fucking remember………….all that kept running through my head was RUN you silly old fucker!". However, after the show, the bug had bitten again. Mark joined that year on Lead Guitar, and 1993 - 1995 was spent playing gigs in the small venues the band had started out in. In 1996, they signed up with Impact Records and recorded their next album Pig Iron. Beef also joined the band after Mark's departure.

1997 saw another personnel change when Winston left the band to be replaced by Jon Jon, and recording the album Scum.

Danny joined on drums in 1998.

The album Out Of Control was released a year later in 1999 2001 Magoo quit playing live shows.

2002 - now.... Jon Jon, Beef and Danny all left, to be replaced by PJ (original drummer), Jez, and Shady. This lineup of the band is still going as of April 2006.
