About this concert
In 2025, the Muziekgebouw celebrates its 20th anniversary, a landmark occasion. Join us for a special mini-festival on Saturday 20 September, for only €20! This musical taster day provides a chance for anyone curious about the Muziekgebouw to explore our building and take a look behind the scenes. Enjoy short performances in various locations, from the Grote Zaal and Kleine Zaal to the Loading Dock and backstage rehearsal studios. After a musical exploration through the building in small groups, the grand finale takes place in the Grote Zaal with performances by the top ensemble Cappella Amsterdam and members of Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Quatuor Danel. This mini-festival kicks off our 2025-2026 anniversary season. This season, we have selected twenty concerts that together form a wonderful cross-section of what the Muziekgebouw stands for. The music of today in all its polyphonic splendour, recognizable by the ‘20 years Muziekgebouw’ label. For the perpetually curious. Featuring our valued partners, iconic composers, beloved guest musicians and rising young stars. Look for this label.

Amsterdam Sinfonietta Biography
Amsterdam Sinfonietta comprises 23 top-level musicians who play together in symbiosis. Led by artistic director Candida Thompson, the orchestra tours all over the world with adventurous programmes and crossovers with other musical genres and art forms. Amsterdam Sinfonietta has evolved into the leading string orchestra of the Netherlands and a world-class orchestra.
Amsterdam Sinfonietta has become a regular player in European concert halls, has toured Asia, America and Australia, and has performed in such concert halls as Barbican Hall in London, National Centre of Performing Arts in Beijing, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Konzerthaus in Vienna.
The ensemble works with nationally and internationally acclaimed soloists. Musicians such as Janine Jansen, Sol Gabetta, Kian Soltani, Thomas Hampson, Beatrice Rana, Fazil Say and Rufus Wainwright share our curiosity and a constant urge for innovation.
Characteristic of Amsterdam Sinfonietta is its innovative programming. Alongside the established string orchestra repertoire, the orchestra presents original and exciting combinations of musical works, connecting old and new music, well-known and unknown repertoire. The orchestra enters into unexpected collaborations and performs groundbreaking programs, including film, dance and theatre.
