Aires Tropicales, a quintet armed with charm, expertise and boundless energy, is taking the stage by storm. The ensemble of talented young Cuban musicians, now based in the Netherlands, also possesses a wanderlust for sound: their unique blend sweeps you away to experience vastly different worlds, from classical works to the infectious rhythms of Cuban and Latin American music. A journey of discovery, then – but above all, Aires Tropicales is a celebration for your ears. Recently, Aires Tropicales lent their musical artistry to the promotional campaign for Netflix’s Queen Charlotte, a collaboration that also featured Vogue. On the Dutch television programme Podium Klassiek, they performed the captivating piece Afro by Paquito D’Rivera, a composition that echoes their Cuban roots. It is also on the programme this afternoon, alongside a selection of other Latin American music and works by Ravel and Debussy. It goes without saying that the worldwide smash hit Chan Chan by Buena Vista Social Club will also be included.
