The Cranker has been a venue of significant Australian music for decades. I have seen bands like Mark Of Cain, Magic Dirt, Superjesus and so many more but Mannequin Death Squad now hold the crown of best gig I've seen at the Cranker. :-) After seeing them live last July at a small but sold-out (for the first time????) venue called the Bergy in Melboune I knew I'd found something special, so I've been harassing everyone I know who appreciates music to come see them! Our little MDS fan crew numbered about 15 in total and 12 had never seen them before. EVERY person loved them! The room had a few hardcore fans (us lol) a spattering of people who had recently heard them via radio and other media, and many that had never heard of them but word is getting around now....MDS are the real thing. I do not know anyone who did not like that gig. It was just Dan and Elly doing what they do, entertain the people who came and it's obvious that they MEAN IT. A mixture of early Magic Dirt with a dash of Chrissie Amphlett, well crafted material played with attitude and skilful musicianship, Marshall amp up to 11 and once the foot goes down it doesn't come off. It is surprising the depth of sound that this two member band project, you find yourself wondering where they're hiding the rest of the band! A band that will very likely some day become Australian music icons. Go see them!

Mannequin Death Squad is an instrument swapping, rock/grunge/punk band from Melbourne, Australia.
Mixing catchy pop melodies with ferocious punk rock riffs, and an infectiously energetic live show.
Touring worldwide completely DIY, the pair have shared the stage with many including: Suicidal Tendencies, Soulfly, Soft Play, NENA, Frenzal Rhomb, British India and WAAX to name a few.
The pair has recently returned from a 17 date ‘DIY or DIE’ Europe tour, filling venues across Europe and the UK concluding with a supporting slot with Soulfly in the south of France. The tour was booked, managed and funded completely by themselves.
Prior to this, the band sold out their hometown show at the 250 capacity Bergy Bandroom in Melbourne. The band also showcased at SXSW Sydney for the second year in a row.
2023 featured an appearance at Rebellion Festival (UK), a supporting slot for NENA in Amsterdam and an onslaught of performances across Europe and a headline set at Ziro Festival in the scenic foothills of the Himalayas in Aranachal Pradesh, India.
The year was capped off with being handpicked by Mike Muir to support Suicidal Tendencies on their Sold-Out Australian Tour.
The band’s debut album “Super Mental Psycho” was co-produced with legendary Australian producer Mark Opitz (AC/DC, INXS, The Angels, Divinyls). Their sophomore album ‘Wise and Dangerous’ is set for release in 2025.
