Concentus Musicus Wien

For over 60 years, Concentus Musicus Vienna was the home and nucleus of the musical creativity of its founder, Nikolaus Harnoncourt. The ensemble's characteristic intensity and its profound, vivid interpretation of musical masterpieces were always based essentially on Harnoncourt's demand that each individual musician actively participate and personally understand why this particular piece was performed "in this way and not otherwise." The ensemble—thus not merely a performer, but a musical partner captivated by the spirit of the work—inevitably developed its own specific musical language, which makes it so distinctive.
