About Thobias Gabrielson
Thobias Gabrielson is a Swedish bass player, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who has been active on the Swedish jazz and pop/rock scene since the mid-'90s. He has toured across Scandinavia, Europe, South Africa, and Asia, performing with artists such as Nils Landgren, Magnus Öström, Janne Schaffer, Timbuktu, GES and Ida Sand.
His album, Messages, was released on November 10th, 2023. It showcases a unique approach to the bass, where the instrument carries not only the bass line but also the melody and, at times, harmonies—performed simultaneously in a single take, without overdubs. In addition to bass, Thobias plays keyboards, synthesizers, trumpet, flugelhorn, and percussion on the record.
The album also features guest appearances from some of Sweden’s finest musicians:
Nils Landgren – trombone (appears courtesy of ACT Music)
Karl-Martin Almqvist – tenor saxophone
Daniel Karlsson – grand piano
Janne Schaffer – guitar
Andy Pfeiler – guitar and mix engineer
Petter Bergander – Hammond organ
Tobias Tagesson – drums and percussion
Andreas Andersson – baritone saxophone
Christos Gontevas – vocals
Earlier release: Thobias Gabrielson Sextet - Growth (2011).
