Hair of the Dog Biography
There are at least 2 bands named Hair of the Dog.
1.) 1992 - present - A celtic folk band formed in 1992, bringing together six musicians from the upstate New York acoustic music scene. Since then, Hair Of The Dog has entertained thousands of fans of all ages with their unique blend of Celtic, rock, folk and bluegrass music. Their high energy sound, four-part harmonies and tight instrumental attack has made them one of Americas favorite Irish folk bands, and an international success as well.
2.) Defunct since 2001 - A Hard rock band from Hair Of The Dog is is a much vaunted rootsy hard rock act that bucked all trends to attain popular appeal. Anchored in LA for many years, the band was forged in Granada Hills, CA by Michigan natives guitarist John 'Racer' Sepetys, bassist Brian 'Boot' Saputo, in union with Kansas born front man Ryan Cook. The band's debut eponymous 1997 record would include a track 'Cadillac Jack' which spread like wildfire across rock radio stations of the American midwest. Promoting the album would find the band almost without respite on the road for nearly two years, which included over 50 dates with RATT in 1997. After these gigs were completed, the band parted ways with drummer Johnny Evans and enlisted a replacement drummer for another 8 months of touring. This time they scored an opening slot for CINDERELLA throughout much of 1998. For their second album, Hair of the Dog recruited drummer Mike Dupke and recorded in Wireworld Studios just outside of Nashville with the legendary hard rock producer MICHAEL WAGENER. Their second album "Rise" was released on Spitfire Records in April of 2000 and the band hit the road again, this time with slots supporting MOTORHEAD in the summer and SKID ROW in the fall of 2000. Right as the band's reputation and following truly began to blossom, Sepetys was forced to leave the band because of an affliction he'd been struggling with for several years ('focal hand dystonia'). The band went on to record their third album "Ignite" and it was released again via Spitfire in 2001. They enlisted Brian Saunders to fill the vacant guitar spot while on the road in the fall of 2001. It was rumored the band had split up, but no offical announcement was ever made. Members of the band moved on to other projects with Dupke joining first Eric Sardinas and then becoming the drumme for W.A.S.P. Singer Ryan Cook has filled in for Skid Row guitarist SNAKE SABO on tours in 2007 and 2008. Though still unconfirmed, it is rumored that Cook and Sepetys are re-uniting to make an appearance at the Rocklahoma Festival in July of 2008. The condition of Sepetys's hand remains the biggest obstacle.
