Diaphanie Biography
It’s summer 2020 and songwriter Heather Thomas is sitting up in bed. Her old Shure Beta 58 microphone is at her lips, and she’s singing the aching refrain: “I come in the front door and you go out the back.” Seeking connection beyond her small sphere in the height of lockdown, master guitar players Eles Thiessen and Matt Dirks have sent her a flowing, melodic guitar track, recorded deep in the woods. The moment she hears it she knows it’s special.
That song became Diaphanie’s debut single ‘Something Better’, bedroom vocals and all. Since its release in August 2020, Diaphanie has moved from strength to strength, starting with a debut live performance in August 2021 that sold out in 2 days, to a Winnipeg Folk Festival showcase at the Burton Cummings Theatre, to an opening slot with Rose Cousins in early 2022, all on the strength of a handful of online performances and one single.
Currently whiling away the coldest months of the year recording a full length album, Diaphanie is devoted to telling the true and unembellished story of her city, her life, and her loves.
