Mateo Suarez Biography
Best known for leading The Phonecall for seven years, producer and multi-instrumentalist Mateo Suarez's brand of jazz-rock fusion is a call back to the artists of the '60s and '70s. His sound is a fresh take and mix of Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, and War, utilizing many session musicians to create kaleidoscopes of sound for your ears to enjoy.
Born in 2006, the Chicago native began playing drums at the age of three, and became self-taught after some lessons at the Merit School of Music, and soon would teach himself guitar beginning when he was twelve. He would soon learn bass, piano and soon would begin experimenting. In 2018, he would begin using The Phonecall name, which he used for over seven year’s. From 2020-2021 he would release five records, and starting the next year, he would bring along a backing band, which was active from 2022 up until he abruptly ended the project in 2024.
He has produced with artists such as CHIDERA. and The Dennies, and continues to work with other artists in Chicago.
Now attending Columbia College Chicago, he is producing his first solo album, with session musicians and friends from past projects, finally seeing his musical vision fully through in a way never heard before.
