About this concert
Tarntanya/Adelaide’s Placement are releasing their new single on 13 June; Insect is a journey from a world that is somewhat familiar, if perhaps seen through a dream, guitars glisten, insects flutter drawn as always to the streetlights, but nobody sees as they drop into a different dystopian landscape. The song peels apart and guitars seize control, winning the war against mortality that the lyrics hinted at. Glittering crystal guitars, syncopated drums.
Malia Wearn (vocals) on Insect: "I had a cat called Cash. He was hard to live with, stinky and spiky and murderous. He was tiny and wild and uncontainable. We called him Cashew for short. He would disappear sometimes for days and we would wonder if he would one day disappear forever. But I found him straight away that morning, draped across the pavement. I had to wait for a car to pass between us before I could reach him. Did they see him as they sped past, one of the many insects crushed on the road, drawn to the light, to the furnace. How long did he lie there in a halo of streetlight, just outside the cemetery gates? He had jaws that bit and teeth that caught, an insect like me.”
Formed by a group of creatives from Kaurna Yarta/South Australia, Placement have spent the last few years honing their live sound, playing across the East & South coasts of Australia, and have quickly built a reputation for their ferocious live performance, utilising their own secret tunings to deliver a cohesive collective of compositions.
Placement’s 2021 debut EP 'Lost Sun' received radio play Australia wide, including plays on Triple J and full rotation on Double J. It received excellent press coverage including features in Rolling Stone Australia, NME, Trouble Juice, Homegrown Sounds, Frankie Magazine and ABC. Since the release of Lost Sun, Placement have focussed on building their national profile playing strategic interstate shows, booked for Yours and Owls (cancelled), Placement played Meadow Festival (Vic), Grain's Birthday Festival (Qld), GUTS SA regional tour, Gong Crawl (Woollongong) Mountain Goat Valley Crawl (Brisbane), Nice Day to Go to the Club (Adelaide).
“Picture me rn stuck in a loop where I'm playing this again and again after the track ends. It's got buzz and bite and this feeling like a lit wick that's quickly burning towards annihilation.” Dave Ruby Howe, Triple J, reviewing “Harder”
“Placement offer a sound that harnesses the isolation of their hometown, and pairs it with a need to carve their own musical niche that is impossible to ignore.” Tyler Jenke, Rolling Stone, reviewing “Lost Sun”
“Angular, atmospheric, propulsive and impossible to ignore, it remains one of the most exciting Australian releases of the year.” Dan Condon, Double J, reviewing “Lost Sun”
