About Salin
Salin Cheewapansri, simply known as Salin, is a Thai-born, Canadian-based drummer, producer, and composer. From her humble beginnings playing drums on the streets, she worked her way to working with many top artists Canada has to offer. ln 2021, she released her debut album which lead her to performed at numerous festivals, including Montreal International Jazz Festivals.
In 2022, Salin traveled to Northeastern Thailand, to a region called “Isan”, in which the local’s music scene became a source of inspiration for a new sound, bridging elements of traditional Thai instruments with the rhythm and groove of Soul/ Funk and 70’s West African psychedelia. Working with both local Thai as well as Canadian musicians, Salin is bringing together elements of East and West in the form of her second full-length album, set to be released in 2024.
Through her music, she ponders themes of identity, spirituality, and humanity (all paired with a dose of fun) to create a unique sonic journey for her listeners.
