Marta Sofia Honer Biography
Marta Sofia Honer is an artist, session player, arranger, and composer . Working in both classical and contemporary fields, Honer’s versatility in different musical settings has garnered her studio credits alongside Beyoncé´, Kendrick Lamar, Makaya McCraven, Angel Olsen, Fleet Foxes and more — including seven Grammy nominations and an album of the year win.
On stage she can be found playing at festivals and concert halls alike, backing a truly diverse list of artists ranging from Ariana Grande to Arthur Verocai; from Portugal. The Man to the Pacific Jazz Orchestra.
As an original artist, in 2022 Honer released the critically-acclaimed duo album Recordings from the Åland Islands with synthesist Jeremiah Chiu. The album combines field recordings with improvisation on synthesizer and viola to recreate a specific feeling of space, time, and location.
In 2023 the duo combined forces with legendary French musician Ariel Kalma after the BBC Radio show Late Junction reached out to commission new work. The result eventually evolved into a larger collaboration, culminating in the full length album The Closest Thing to Silence, which was released via International Anthem and praised as “heady, vibrant, and mysterious” by Complex Distractions.
