RENE Biography

RENE (they/them) is an independent artist from Singapore. Meaningful and authentic lyrics, rich vocals, and catchy guitar lines are what create their signature sound. Their music is influenced by pop, indie, and rock genres, and a mix of artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Neck Deep, and beabadoobee. Their song-writing encompasses themes such as societal commentary, self-reflection, and personal relationships. Empathy and introspection are the most important values to them as an artist.

The release of their latest single “Apocalypse!!!” follows the announcement of RENE as a Spotify RADAR 2025 artist. Their previous singles “Same For Me” and “Overdue” have received Spotify support on key playlists such as nine New Music Friday playlists across Asia (including Korea, Philippines, Indonesia), poses, and .ORG, and landed cover placements on Haze, Rising 65, and Love Lives.

In 2023, RENE released their second EP ‘Slipped Through My Fingers’. They co-produced the EP with Daryl Hor (Sun Cell, Royal Estate) and Indonesia-based Gilang Wisnandar (HNATA, PRYVT) which included dreamy singles “Better Than To Brood”, “Dry In The Sun” and “Rule The World” . They also released the music video for “Rule The World” in June to commemorate Pride month, working with esteemed photographer and director Lenne Chai (W Magazine, Vogue, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard) on the butt-kicking short film.

In July 2023, RENE released an acoustic version of their collaborative track “we’re gonna die anyway!!!” with Singapore-based singer-songwriter Marian Carmel, a year on since the initial release of the song in celebration of Pride. In September 2023, they released a collaboration “we grew up together” with Boston-based artist hongjoin. RENE released their debut EP 'Something To Hide', in April 2021, a collection of 5 tracks that set RENE on a path towards finding their niche as a musician and songwriter – blending different genres and into a sound that best represents the artist they are.

RENE had embarked on The Lilypad Tour in June 2024 with fellow independent artists lewloh and Marian Carmel, where they brought their music to audiences in Singapore, Taiwan, and The Philippines. RENE also performed at Soho House Hong Kong in November 2024 supporting lewloh alongside Hong Kong-based Gwenji.

RENE was featured on the cover of Time Out Singapore in June 2024, as well as in Vogue Singapore’s July 2024 issue. They have performed for events such as Singapore Night Festival, Esplanade’s Baybeats Festival, *SCAPE Music Day Out!, and Tiger Crystal's Fire Stages. They have been featured in live radio interviews and performances on 98.7FM, Power 98, KISS 92FM, and on Channel News Asia. They were a participating artist in The Great Singapore Replay: Season 2, with award-winning singer-songwriter Charlie Lim as their mentor.
