Ulysses Owens Jr.

Last year's debut show in Japan was a great success! Drummer Ulysses Owens, Jr. and his band, Generation Y, will once again appear at the Cotton Club. Ulysses, who has been active in numerous projects including the New Century Jazz Quintet, is also known as an educator, and Generation Y was formed by him to nurture and support the next generation of talent, following in the footsteps of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Their first album, “A New Beat,” was selected as one of the best albums of the American jazz magazine “Downbeat,” and has received high acclaim. This performance will be joined by some of Japan's most talented players, including Kyoshi Nakamura and Erena Terakubo. Expectations are high for their passionate sessions, in which they will breathe new life into the jazz tradition.
