About this concert
Signals presents Overtones: a new branch of our listening series—less formal, more spacious. Think of it as Signals’ B-side: longer sets, a bit more rhythm, still focused on deep sonic exploration.
Join us upstairs at Bar Open for a night of ambient and experimental electroacoustic adventures of the mind, curated by Dan O’Toole and Kieran Ruffles (co-founders of Signals).
🎶 Fiera Verde (Patagonia)
The sonic alter ego of Mailén Loarte, blending layered vocals, metallic and granulated charangos, forest mist and broken beats into rich, cinematic soundscapes.
🎶 ok.ruffles (Naarm)
Multi-instrumentalist and Signals co-curator. For this set, he’ll be combining analog drones, delay, acoustic/digital percussion and breath-based textures—trying out new hardware and improvised forms.
🎶 The Light Ensemble
An electroacoustic jazz collective led by Rob LFO, Jonah Gabriel, Ffion Stoakes, Gen Kuner and B. C. Slumber—with special guest Cosmic Sound Explorer. Expect modular synths, Omnichord, cello, sax, samplers, and piano in spontaneous conversation.

Fiera Verde Biography
Fiera Verde is the sonic avatar of Mailén Loarte, born in Patagonia, Argentina. After playing bass in the transfeminist cumbia band Cáliz Marea and exploring vocal manipulation and synthesis in the experimental electronic duo Ondro, she launched her solo project in January 2020 with a performance in Villa La Angostura.
Her performances are immersive experiences rather than conventional gigs, blending layered vocals, granulated and metallic charangos, beats, and atmospheric textures. She often collaborates with performers, creating multidisciplinary live shows that merge sound and movement.
In 2020, she contributed to pantanoGORGE – volcano version, a collaborative release between the Argentinian collective pantanosumpf and the Japanese label GORGE.IN. That same year, she joined a residency at Tribu de Trueno in Bariloche and debuted in Buenos Aires under The Journey You Never Had, the label set to release her first album Junco, founded by Matt Cianfo.
Since relocating to Melbourne/Naarm in 2022, she has continued to evolve her sound while curating experimental events such as Rain, Not Thunder and Feed Blooms, produced at East Mint. She is now part of the Signals crew, a collective dedicated to showcasing FLINTA and experimental ambient artists through intimate gatherings and radio shows.
