Grave Next Door Biography
Shaped by decades of persistence in the face of adversity, Michigan stoner metal outfit Grave Next Door is poised to break out of their tomb and take on the national underground music scene. Formed in 2018 by brothers Patrick and Anthony Salerno, their name is aptly inspired by the cemetery next to their home -- but this dry wit belies the band’s dark examination of mortality.
Fusing the sounds of Black Sabbath, Black Flag, and The Melvins with more unorthodox influences like The Moody Blues and Cream, Grave Next Door’s music also reflects drummer Patrick’s experiences as a bounty hunter and former US Navy deep sea diver. Guitarist and vocalist Anthony brings foreboding doom grooves, always locked in with his brother.
The band’s 2019 singles “Sanctified Heathen,” “Blood in the Sand,” and “Nuclear Winter” garnered them a following online, with their fans affectionately known as the Grave Nation. The singles were featured on many radio shows and podcasts, and “Sanctified Heathen” was even adopted as the theme song of underground metal podcast A Fistful of Faceful.
Grave Next Door honed their live set on tours through the East Coast and Texas before the pandemic grounded their travel plans, all while going through a series of personnel changes -- but when original bassist and US Marine Corps recon veteran Travis Soleski rejoined the band in summer 2021, they knew this was the lineup that was meant to be. Their performance at Maryland Doom Fest in October 2021 solidified the band’s hold on the national underground doom scene.
Grave Next Door’s debut album Sanctified Heathen will be released by Black Doomba Records in March 2022, exploring themes of addiction, mortality, and war. This outfit’s grit has kept them pushing to bring their best music to the masses; with Sanctified Heathen, they are laying down the constitution of a Grave Nation.
