Pangolin Biography
NIC DAVIES I grew up singing, hymns, choral classics and 40s popular music with my Dad and Grandpa, but I learnt my first folk songs on board boats in Newfoundland - sea shanties and traditional Irish songs like The Star of the County Down. I could probably tell my life story in the songs I've learned, from those shanties and old ballads, through Joni Mitchell, and June Tabor, Ry Cooder and Richard and Linda Thompson to Alison Krauss Judith Owen and Karine Polwart. Songs are the best kind of storytelling and I love the mixture of old and new stories we tell with the songs we play.. MIKE SNELGROVE With a break for kids, jobs etc. I've been playing music since I was 16. I started as a bass player in London playing West Coast American music in the vein of Jefferson Starship, The Eagles, Poco and Jackson Browne. Nowadays I've migrated to guitar - 6 string, 12 string and tenor - and banjo and do a bit of singing mainly to provide background vocals for Nic, but I'm occasionally given the mic to use and abuse all on my own. My musical tastes have also evolved to an eclectic mix of (primarily) acoustic music from Nick Drake to Sarah Jarosz, Old Crow Medicine Show to The Avett Brothers, Kieran Kane to Johnny Cash and all flavours in between. Acoustic Americana & Folk. We are a band based in and around Abergavenny in Wales. We are Nic Davies and Mike Snelgrove (things with strings and voice)
