PROGRAMME: Brumel Missa Et ecce terrae motus: Kyrie and Gloria Gombert Lugebat David Brumel Missa Et ecce terrae motus: Credo and Sanctus Josquin Absalon fili mi Gombert Missa Et ecce terrae motus: Agnus dei Tallis Spem in alium PERFORMERS The Tallis Scholars Peter Phillips director The Talis Scholars present two of the largest choral works to come from the Renaissance period. Tallis’ 40-part motet Spem in alium, cast in five eight-part choirs, needs little introduction, but Brumel’s 12-part ‘Earthquake’ Mass is just now beginning to be recognised for the masterpiece it is. In a musical style all its own, Brumel’s invention never flags, producing across a work which lasts nearly 50 minutes, a kaleidoscope of patterns, textures and rhythmic excitements. Truly a bucket-list piece.
