About this concert
Hungarian trumpeter and composer Barabás Lőrinc brings the music of his acclaimed Quartet to New York City for a special one-night performance at Drom. For this unique show, Barabás is joined by an exceptional lineup of New York-based musicians: Juancho Herrera Rey on guitar, René Ferrer on bass guitar, and Alon Cohen on drums. Blending modern jazz with groove, rock, and electronic textures, Barabás’s compositions are known for their cinematic atmosphere, rhythmic drive, and lyrical trumpet melodies. Together with this handpicked ensemble, he reimagines his Quartet repertoire through the lens of NYC’s vibrant jazz scene. Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind musical encounter — a fusion of Budapest roots and New York energy.

Barabás Lörinc Biography

Hungarian trumpeter and composer Barabás Lőrinc has been a key player and driving force in Budapest’s improvised music scene for nearly two decades. His various formations and improvisational club nights take him to the frontiers of jazz, electronic and neoclassical music. The minimalist, melancholic pieces on his new solo album recall the neoclassical music of Nils Frahm and Ólafur Arnalds, while his quartet's latest jazz album, released in 2021, is more reminiscent of Miles Davis' 1970s fusion and Erik Truffaz' early period.

Barabás Lőrinc is a highly active and prolific performer, with recordings that continue to chart new innovative directions. Since 2007, he has released twelve albums with his different bands and as a solo artist. In recent years, two of his works for symphony orchestra (Metamorphosis, 2019; Game, 2022) have been premiered, opening up new horizons for him in contemporary classical music.

He regularly tours throughout Europe and the United States. In recent years, he has performed with internationally renowned artists such as Erik Truffaz, Nicola Conte, Takuya Kuroda, Niklas Paschburg and Valerie June. He has played at numerous international events, including the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), iTunes Festival (UK), North Sea Jazz Festival (The Netherlands), Noosa Jazz Festival (Australia), Hong Kong Jazz Festival, Ficamazonia Film Festival (Columbia), and Expo 2020 Dubai.
